Lokale Blumen was commissioned for an intimate dinner floral design for the Biennale of Sydney, following the exciting announcement of the artist line-up for the 22nd Biennale of Sydney (2020).

On 12 September 2019, on the land of the Bidjigal and Gadigal Clans, the Biennale of Sydney announced the full list of artists, creatives and collectives who will be participating in the 22nd Biennale of Sydney, titled NIRIN (meaning Edge).

The 22nd Biennale of Sydney is artist- and First Nations-led, presenting an expansive exhibition of contemporary art that connects local communities and global networks.

Under the artistic direction of Brook Andrew, the exhibition will include artworks across six sites: Art Gallery of NSW, Artspace, Campbelltown Arts Centre, Cockatoo Island, Museum of Contemporary Art Australia and the National Art School.

In our creative concept for the dinner, we explored the edges of Sydney’s wild spring.

Guests dined face to face with creeping spring fronds from Sydney’s edges. Our floral design featured local wild carrot (aka Queen Anna’s Lace) appearing to grow out of the table, rearing it’s face to come face to face with each diner, and talk to it’s neighboring blossom.

Queen Anne’s Lace was juxtaposed with long wielding branches of a nearby blossom tree, and delicate white smokebush on the cusp of bursting into flower. Thank you to local gardener, Kit, and the Biennale of Sydney.
